The Surrendered Man is a candid, unflinching journey from control to release-and from imitation to identity. Lynn Johnson traces how a boyhood built on comic-book ideals and self-protection hardened into an adult need to manage every feeling, room, and relationship-until the "mirror test" forced him to face the truth about who he'd become. From early memories in New Orleans to formative years of community leadership and mentoring, Lynn shows how surrender is not weakness but the deliberate choice to let go of what was never ours to carry.

For many men, control is the unspoken measure of strength. It becomes the yardstick by which we judge our worth-not only in careers or finances, but in the hidden corners of life: our emotions, our relationships, even our sense of identity. Lynn's story reveals the danger of living with that constant grip, and the freedom that comes when a man learns to release it. True strength, he argues, begins where control ends.

The Surrendered Man is both a mirror and a map. For some, it reveals the ways they've been performing an image of strength; for others, it uncovers blind spots they've never stopped to examine. In either case, Lynn Johnson offers a way forward-through honesty, vulnerability, trust, and peace. This is not the story of weakness, but of a deeper power found when a man chooses to surrender and, in doing so, discovers the freedom to live with purpose, integrity, and unshakable strength.

The 2025 NFL season opens with precision, performance, and billion-dollar partnerships. At the front of our VMH Sports Kickoff Edition is Patrick Mahomes, now the face of Hublot. His partnership with the Swiss luxury watchmaker is about more than style—it’s about mastering time, redefining influence, and expanding Kansas City’s global presence.

Our cover feature turns from the field to the boardroom: Lynn Johnson, nonprofit c-suite executive in Kansas City. Named after Steelers legend Lynn Swann, Johnson shares how faith, resilience, and the lessons of football shaped his philosophy of surrender as strength. His story shows that leadership is not domination, but presence, trust, and vision.

Every life has a story worth telling. Mine began in Kansas City and continues through a lifelong commitment to transforming how we lead, serve, and live with purpose. Through storytelling, I connect the heart of faith with the realities of leadership; building bridges between communities, strengthening families, and inspiring holistic well-being. Whether through my writing, speaking, or mission work, my goal is simple: to help others find strength, surrender, and significance in their own stories.
